Opening Hours
You will find all opening hours on the individual library and reading cafe pages of our website.
Christmas 2025 – Library and Cafe Opening Hours
Wed 24 December: Rowntree Park Cafe open until 3pm
Wed 24 to Fri 26 December: All libraries closed.
Sat 27 December: Libraries and cafes at Clifton, Tang Hall and York open as normal. Cafes at Rowntree Park and Hungate open as normal. All other libraries closed.
Sun 28 December: Libraries at York, Tang Hall and cafes at York and Rowntree Park open as normal. All libraries and cafes closed.
Mon 29 and Tue 30 December: Libraries and cafes at Clifton, Tang Hall and York open 9am to 5pm. Cafes at Rowntree Park and Hungate open as normal. All other libraries closed.
Wed 31 December and Thu 1 January: All libraries and cafes closed.
Fri 2 January: All libraries and cafes open as normal.
Room Hire
Some of our larger libraries have rooms to hire and cafes.

If you find it difficult to visit a library in-person, you may be interested in our Home Library Service.
Dogs in our cafes and libraries
Our cafes at Hungate, Rowntree Park, Homestead Park, Acomb and Tang Hall have outdoor terraces where dogs are very welcome. York Explore has a garden space outside where you could take a dog and enjoy a takeaway from our cafe. Assistance dogs are welcome in all our libraries of course, but otherwise we ask you to consider the needs of all customers and leave your pet at home.
