About Us
Drop-in, browse and borrow – you’re sure of a warm welcome!
We have a welcoming cafe serving a variety of food and drink.
You can use a PC. Please use our booking webpage to book a session. You’ll need your library card number and PIN to log in. Alternatively just give us a ring to book a session.
Toilets are available in the centre including accessible toilets and changing places facilities.
If you still love reading. but find it difficult to get to your local library, our Home Library Service offers you the chance to get the books that you love to read delivered straight to your door.

What’s on at Tang Hall Explore
All activities are free unless otherwise stated.
The Bad Bargain Book Club: First Monday of every month 6:30pm-7:30pm. Please ask a member of library staff or email or phone the library to book as places are limited.
Stay and Play: Every Monday 10.30am-12pm. Enjoy playing with a selection of toys with your child in our children’s area. No need to book, just drop-in.
Under 5s Storytime: Every Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 10.30-11am. Drop-in for stories and rhymes.
Chess Club: Every Thursday 4:30pm-6:30pm. Open to all ages, free, no booking required.
The Thursday Night Murder Club: First Thursday of every month 6pm-7pm. Please email, phone or ask a member of library staff for further information.
Family Hub Pop Up: Every Friday 10.15 to 11.45am (starting 6 Feb 2026) and the last Saturday of every month 9.00 to 11.30am (starting 28 Feb 2026). A drop in to get help and support finding and accessing help and information regarding family-related matters, including digital support to access online resources and learning.
Lego Club: Every Saturday 11am-12pm, no need to book.
Craft Club: Every Saturday 10am-12pm
Family Board Games Club: Every Saturday afternoon 1:30pm-3:30pm. Free drop-in, no booking required.
Book Sale: The first weekend of every month.

Getting there
Cycling: There are plenty of covered cycle racks available.
Buses: First York bus no. 11 stops outside the building.
Driving: Two free car parks, one on each side of the building, with around 70 spaces in total. There is a drop off point outside the library entrance plus four accessible parking spaces. There is also an electric car charging point operated by BP Pulse on behalf of CYC. To check the status of the charge point before arrival, you can access the Zap Map, and then search for our post code (YO31 0HA). the map will show you a marker for the library and clicking on the marker will show you the status. On-street parking is available with no local parking restrictions.
Taxis: Not all companies are yet familiar with our location. When giving information we recommend that you refer to Tang Hall Explore Library, The Centre @ Burnholme, Mossdale Avenue, off Bad Bargain Lane. Our postcode is YO31 0HA. If this is not recognised, suggest YO31 0GW as an alternative. Do not go to Fifth Avenue as we have not been at that location since June 2018.
