All libraries will be closed on the bank holiday Monday 26 August. The Community Stadium and our reading cafes at Hungate, Rowntree Park and Homestead will remain open.

Drop-in, browse and borrow – you’re sure of a warm welcome!
You can use a PC. Please use our booking webpage to book a session. You’ll need your library card number and PIN to log in. Alternatively just give us a ring to book a session.
If you still love reading. but find it difficult to get to your local library, our Home Library Service offers you the chance to get the books that you love to read delivered straight to your door.

Clifton Explore: July to September 2024
We hope this covers everything you need to know about access to your library in Clifton this summer and the exciting move to our brand new Explore Centre in September. If there is something we have missed, please get in touch so we can update this page.
When will the current library close?
The current library will close Saturday 31 August at 1pm. Staff will be onsite and busy packing up books ready for the move and making the old building ready for handover to the new tenants.
And when does the new Clifton Explore Centre open?
We will be opening the doors of the new library on Monday 23 September at 10am. We are excited to welcome you to a beautiful new space then.
How do I return books due back at Clifton from 1- 23 September?
From Monday 12 August all books and other items issued to Clifton customers will have an extended due date of Monday 30 September.
Can I collect my reserved books from another library while Clifton is closed?
You can reserve items for collection from any other Explore library or we can keep your items for you to collect at Clifton when the new Explore Centre is open.
Can I still borrow books for my Readers’ Group?
Readers’ Groups collections are held at Clifton Explore so these should be ordered before 31 July as they cannot be supplied during the closure period.
What are the opening hours at the new Clifton Explore Centre?
From 23 September 2024 opening hours will be as follows:

What other organisations will be based at Clifton Explore?
We are delighted to be working with three new partners who will have office space and dedicated rooms at the new Centre. They are:
- Accessible Arts and Media: a charity providing activities for Disabled people.
- York Learning
- City of York Council’s Medical Needs Teaching Service for children/young people who are unable to access mainstream education.

Can I hire a Meeting Room at the new Explore Centre?
A few meeting rooms will be available for hire at Clifton. For more information, please get in touch.
What’s on at Clifton Explore
All activities are free unless otherwise stated.
Under 5s Storytime: Every Tuesday 10.30-11am. Drop-in for stories and songs.
Reading Group: First Tuesday of the month 11am – 12.30pm. Please contact the library to find out the latest book. (01904) 552662
Games Club: Wednesday once a fortnight 2 – 4pm drop-in.
Boccia: Every Wednesday 2-4pm drop-in.
Under 5s Play Morning: Every Wednesday 10-11am. Drop-in to play with toys and colour pictures.
Lego Club: Every Thursday 3.45-5pm drop-in.
Stay and Play: Every Friday 10.30am-12pm. Enjoy playing with a selection of toys with your child in our children’s area. No need to book, just drop-in.
Adult Craft Group: Every Friday 2-4pm drop-in.
Getting there
We have a car park behind the library which includes 2 disabled spaces.
We have bike racks available behind the library.
No buses stop directly outside the library but the number 2 Park & Ride, York Pullman run the Number 19 Mon-Fri, Saturdays TransDev run the Number 19 and the Reliance buses number 30 all stop within a 5 minute walk.
