Reading and Learning Advisor Clifton Explore

Part time: 34 hours per week

Salary: Grade 4 £23,088 per annum pro rata

Contract Type: Permanent

Explore is a leading, innovative public service mutual based in York. We run 15 libraries including York Explore (our flagship library and home of York City Archives), 5 Reading Cafes, a mobile library, and a home library service. Explore inspires everyone to challenge their imagination, explore their potential and connect with each other, supporting and enriching our communities. In 2019 we won a 15 year contract to deliver public libraries and archives for the city of York.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and outgoing person to join our team at the brand new Clifton Explore Centre. This is an exciting time to be joining the team at Clifton as we prepare to relocate the current library to a new building with the opportunity to be involved in welcoming customers new and old to a fantastic new space, which includes a reading café, a brand new library space and a suite of meeting rooms, you can read more about the new Clifton Explore Centre here.   It is essential that you have excellent customer service skills and the ability to deal effectively with a wide range of customer enquiries including supporting people using IT. You will be confident and able to work in a fast-paced environment while delivering a high quality service each day. You will love working with people and be able to deliver a wide variety of activities, working with the local community, communicating using our social media outlets and sharing your love of books and reading with all ages.
You will enjoy working as part of a team as well as being able to take responsibility for individual projects. You will need to share our vision and be able to promote Explore York Libraries and Archives.

This post will work a 2 weekly rotating rota with the hours as follows:

Weeks 1 and 3

Facilities Support Assistant

Part time: 22.5 hours per week

Salary: Grade 4 £23,088 per annum pro rata

Contract Type: Fixed Term until April 2025

We are looking for a part-time Facilities Support Assistant to join our team at Explore York Libraries and Archives. The ideal candidate will be required to move items across our network of 17 libraries and reading cafes using the Explore Library Delivery Van. Items include boxes of books weighing between 6 and 10kgs, ad hoc furniture and other items as required.

Other duties include setting up meeting rooms, basic repair and maintenance, cleaning, grass cutting, gritting library entrances and any other task that fits within the job description.

It is important that the right person has great customer service skills. Being out on the road in the Explore van you will be representing the Explore brand. The people of York love their libraries and when they visit us they receive the very best experience. Driving the Explore van it is important that this reputation is maintained.

You must be organised, self motivated, hard working, friendly, flexible and personable. The hours are 7am-3pm Wednesday-Friday. The van is 3.5 tonne and will require a C1 Driving Licence and is based at Tang Hall Explore Library.

We manage a network of 17 libraries and reading cafes across the City . We have a board of directors who work with us to develop Explore as a high quality, well-respected library and archive service.
